Wrinkle Reducers
There are countless products on the market claiming to reduce wrinkles and to prevent their further appearance. However, it is difficult to find a wrinkle reducer or a wrinkle cream that will be effective for any type of skin and will not produce side effects. The good news is that there are some natural wrinkle reducers that are proven to benefit your skin. These are different vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.
The most commonly used wrinkle reducer in cosmetic products is retinol (a derivative of Vitamin A), an antioxidant which helps reduce the depth of wrinkles. Antioxidants are substances neutralizing the effect of free radicals – unstable oxygen molecules destroying skin cells and contributing to the formation of wrinkles. Retinol does not have such a powerful effect as another derivative of Vitamin A – tretinoin. Tretinoin is the acid form of Vitamin A and by far the most common anti-wrinkle weapon. Both derivatives, though proven effective, can cause redness and irritation of the skin. A disturbing fact is that the concentration of retinol in different products varies considerably. It is wise to choose more wide-known trademarks. You should also avoid retinol derivatives during pregnancy as there is scientific proof that the high concentration of vitamin A can harm the foetus.
Other popular anti-wrinkle ingredients are Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Beta-Hydroxy Acids and Poly-Hydroxy Acids are synthetic derivatives of acids, extracted from fruits. That is why they are wide known as fruit acids. They act as natural exfoliants – substances stimulating the growth of naturally pigmented skin by removind dead skin cells from the surface, thus improving skin appearance. Research shows that hydroxy acids stimulate the formation of collagen – a protein preventing the dehydration of the skin. The use of products containing these acids can considerably contribute to the healthy look of your skin. However, some of the unpleasant side effects are a sense of burning and itching. Hydroxy acids will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, which is why you should use protective creams.
